Professional Experience

Laura Walker has over 25 years of legal experience. She has been a partner with Cable Huston since 1990. From 1998 to 2000, she spent two years in Hong Kong and rejoined the firm upon her return.

Ms. Walker represents secured and unsecured creditors in various proceedings before the Bankruptcy Court. She has handled objections to claims, confirmation hearings, preference claims, discharge litigation, and contested cases. Ms. Walker recently represented the debtor in the first Chapter 11 reorganization filed in Oregon after the adoption of BAPCA.  A plan of reorganization was confirmed in December of 2006.  Ms. Walker has also represented creditors committees in several reorganization cases.

Ms. Walker also assists clients with all types of collection issues, including construction lien claims, the enforcement of indemnity agreements for surety bonds, the collection of unsecured debts, the foreclosure of trust deeds and mortgages, and the enforcement of contracts for the sale of businesses.  Ms. Walker’s  business and commercial litigation practice encompasses fidelity insurance claims, construction disputes, breach of contract claims, and real estate matters.

Finally, businesses look to Ms. Walker for advice on restructuring loans and negotiating agreements with creditors. She has negotiated forbearance agreements on behalf of lenders and debtors and supervised out-of-court workouts and business liquidations.

Mediation and Arbitration

Ms. Walker is committed to providing legal services in an efficient manner by employing mediation or other alternatives to litigation when appropriate. She serves as an arbitrator on behalf of the Arbitration Service of Portland and the NASD Office of Regulation and in the Circuit Court’s mandatory arbitration program.
