Cable Huston partner Laura Maffei has been appointed by Governor John Kitzhaber and confirmed by the Oregon State Senate to serve a four-year term on the Governing Board of the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI).

Laura is a registered professional geologist with the State of Oregon and practices environmental and natural resources law. She represents municipal and industrial clients in permitting, environmental compliance, and environmental litigation matters. Before attending law school, Laura was an environmental consultant in Oregon and Washington.

Laura graduated from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College with a juris doctor degree and a certificate in environmental and natural resource law. She earned an undergraduate degree in geology from UCLA and a master of science in geology from University of Washington. She is one of few Oregon lawyers who are also registered professional geologists.

“With her background in geology and environmental law, Ms. Maffei brings one-of-a-kind perspective and insight to the geologic and mineral resource challenges and opportunities facing Oregon,” says State Geologist Vicki McConnell, on behalf of the Board. “We welcome her to the Governing Board.”

The DOGAMI Governing Board sets policy and oversees general operations, and adopts a strategic plan every six years to guide DOGAMI’s mission and objectives. The Board meets quarterly at sites around the state. As active members of their communities, board members provide an important connection between Oregonians and DOGAMI’s mission of providing earth science information and regulation to make Oregon safe and prosperous.
